  2.  Cloanto Personal Paint
  3.  
  4.  This  disk contains  a complimentary  version of  Personal Paint, version
  5.  2.1, for  the readers  of Amiga  Plus. The  software is  identical to the
  6.  commercial  version. The  remaining files  (pictures, color  fonts, data,
  7.  Amiga system  resources, etc.)  have in  part been  changed to  fit on  a
  8.  single  disk. A description of new features of Personal Paint version 4.0
  9.  is  enclosed,  while  a  special  discount  upgrade offer to the full 4.0
  10.  package appears on the same issue of Amiga Plus. This text can be printed
  11.  with  a word  processor, or  by typing  the following  command in a Shell
  12.  window:

  16.  Personal Paint may be launched with a double-click on its Workbench icon,
  17.  on any Amiga with 1 Mbyte of  RAM (ideally, Chip RAM). In order to  fully
  18.  exploit  the disk capacity, Personal Paint itself has been compressed. On
  19.  not so fast systems, decompression  may slow down the initial  loading of
  20.  the program. To create a decompressed executable file, type the following
  21.  command in a Shell window:

  23.     PPaint:Utilities/Deplode PPaint:PPaint Destination:PPaint
  24.  
  25.  The "Pictures" drawer contains several 256-color images, plus examples of
  26.  color  reduction, color merge and  image processing entirely created with
  27.  Personal Paint. The program automatically reduces the number of colors of
  28.  an image  if the  computer on  which it  is loaded  does not  have an AGA
  29.  (Advanced  Graphics Architecture) chip  set. In case  of color reduction,
  30.  the "Settings/Color Remapping/Floyd-Steinberg"  option usually gives  the
  31.  best  results. This version of the program does not support display cards
  32.  like the Picasso and Retina boards. Version 4.0 does.
  33.  
  34.  It is very easy to explore Personal Paint by choosing from the variety of
  35.  menus and gadgets. It is recommended to make a backup copy of the program
  36.  disk before experimenting with functions which write data.
  37.  
  38.  The gadgets on the tool bar which is displayed on the left of the  screen
  39.  may  respond  differently  depending  on  the pointer's position over the
  40.  gadget (upper or  lower half), the  mouse button which  is used (left  or
  41.  right),  and the number of mouse clicks (cycle gadgets). For example, the
  42.  tool to  the right  of the  "a" text  editing symbol  activates the image
  43.  processing  functions. If it  is selected with  the right mouse button, a
  44.  requester appears to select different image processing options. The  area
  45.  on  which image processing is to be  applied can be delimited by dragging
  46.  the mouse (i.e. moving it while the left button is held down).

  48.  The "Settings/Language" options in this version of Personal Paint can  be
  49.  used  to set  the user  interface language  to either  English, German or
  50.  Italian.
  51.  
  52.  Personal Paint  and the  Personal Fonts  Maker Color  Extensions normally
  53.  share  the same Personal.font  for their user  interface. The font itself
  54.  has been upgraded a few times.  If you have both programs installed,  and
  55.  experience  difficulties because version 2.1 of Personal Paint requires a
  56.  different version  of the  font, just  remove the  font from  your FONTS:
  57.  directory.  All versions of  Personal Paint and  PFM2 also search for the
  58.  font in their local directories, where the font is normally copied during
  59.  automatic installation. Are  you still using  Topaz 8 for  your Workbench
  60.  icon texts? Try Personal 8.

  99.  Personal Write is an extremely  fast word processor packed with  original
  100.  capabilities. It fully exploits unique Amiga characteristics like windows
  101.  and  multitasking.  Personal  Write  does  not  limit  the number of text
  102.  windows which can be displayed at  the same time. A built-in spooler  can
  103.  print even the longest texts in the background, while the program is used
  104.  to  do  other  work.  Personal  Write can encrypt confidential documents,
  105.  which become  unreadable to  unauthorized users,  and save  disk space by
  106.  compressing  texts. Personal Write is also a powerful tool for converting
  107.  texts into different formats. It  can load and save texts  combining more
  108.  than  25 character sets of the  most widely used computers. Control codes
  109.  can be  added or  removed, as  required by  desktop publishing  programs,
  110.  Amiga  system  functions  or  other  hardware  and software environments.
  111.  Thousands of combinations of printer settings can be selected to make the
  112.  best use of  features like the  PostScript driver, the  multistrike print
  113.  mode,  support for  automatic justification  with proportional characters
  114.  and Personal Fonts Maker fonts. Alphanumerical labels can be used in  the
  115.  text  for mail merge  or to reorganize  data. Pictures can  be loaded and
  116.  printed. Keyboard  shortcuts and  the texts  which are  displayed can  be
  117.  redefined  to personalize the user interface (which includes stereo sound
  118.  effects). An automatic hard  disk installation procedure can  be selected
  119.  with the mouse.

  126.  The  Personal Fonts Maker is a powerful tool for designing and processing
  127.  fonts. Amiga fonts and fonts created with the Personal Fonts Maker can be
  128.  transferred to  the printer  memory and  printed at  maximum quality  and
  129.  speed.  The Personal Fonts Maker can output fonts in formats which can be
  130.  read by other Amiga programs, by  other computers and by a vast  range of
  131.  differing  printers  (even  48-pin  and  laser printers). The program can
  132.  handle  IFF  graphics.   It  is  possible,   for  example,  to   work  on
  133.  typographical   fonts   input   from   a   scanning   device.  Repetitive
  134.  transformations on characters or entire fonts can be recorded, stored and
  135.  executed as macros. A special programming language can be used to  define
  136.  the  format in  which fonts  are to  be saved  or sent  to a printer. The
  137.  Personal Fonts Maker package includes  a multitude of original fonts  and
  138.  support  tools like the Printer Driver Modifier, which allows the user to
  139.  personalize printer  drivers. It  is easy  - and  fun -  to work with the
  140.  Personal  Fonts Maker, thanks to the elegant and intuitive user interface
  141.  (with  stereo  sound  effects).  The  manual  is  full  of  examples  and
  142.  introductory sections for novice users, and comes complete with technical
  143.  information for Amiga experts.

  148.  Personal Fonts Maker AGA Color Extensions
  149.  
  150.  The   Color  Extensions   disk  adds   powerful  color   font  processing
  151.  capabilities to the basic package. Most of Personal Paint's editing tools
  152.  have  been  incorporated  into  the  package.  For  the first time, it is
  153.  possible  to process fonts in  up to 256 colors  and no size limit. Among
  154.  others, special functions for  anti-aliasing (even using an  Amiga vector
  155.  font  as a point of departure) and right-to-left fonts are provided. This
  156.  makes it  an ideal  companion to  video applications,  and a  must in the
  157.  titling environment.
